Canton, MS – SR1 has been authorized to open SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (SR1 CPSA), the first public STEM charter school for grades K–5 in Mississippi. The school is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2022, and a nationwide search is underway to find the Elementary Principal who will lead this groundbreaking effort.

Located in rural Madison County, SR1 CPSA will provide an innovative STEM-focused education to prepare students for success in college and beyond. The founding Elementary Principal will have a unique opportunity to help establish the school from the ground up, shaping its design, policies, staff, curriculum, culture, and student recruitment ahead of its opening year.

The SR1 CPSA principal will be an innovator that promotes rigorous STEM learning across content areas within and outside the classroom,” said Dorlisa Hutton, SR1 Chief Operating Officer.

The school’s mission is to deliver a high-performing educational experience that inspires curiosity and achievement. SR1 envisions SR1 CPSA becoming a National Blue Ribbon School and a model of excellence in STEM education. The Elementary Principal will be responsible for instructional leadership, school culture, and building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.

It is imperative that the SR1 CPSA Principal becomes part of the SR1 team that believes in building collaborative community efforts. These efforts will enrich the overall learning environment for our students,” Hutton added. “Long term, SR1 CPSA will contribute to Mississippi’s economy and workforce by developing college-ready students equipped to solve future challenges.
