Nationwide Search Underway for Principal of first Mississippi public STEM Charter School

SR1 has been authorized to open SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (SR1 CPSA), the first public STEM charter school for grades K-5th. It is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2022. A nationwide search is underway to find the Elementary Principal to lead the school.

SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (CPSA) Charter School, located in rural Madison County (Canton, MS), is seeking an Elementary Principal who is an educational visionary with the skill set to modernize education and take on societal challenges to promote the highest level of college access and success. The Elementary Principal will assist from start-up: planning, policy development, school design, hiring of staff, curriculum development, student recruitment, school culture and other critical start-up needs for 2021-2022. SR1 CPSA will open for the 2022-2023 academic year, and the school will be the first STEM focused charter school in the State of Mississippi.

The selected person chosen for the SR1 CPSA principal position will have a unique opportunity to not just lead the first STEM charter school in Mississippi but to build it from the ground up and set the foundation for years to come. The principal should have the vision and career drive to turn SR1 CPSA into a National Blue Ribbon School. The SR1 CPSA’s mission is to prepare students for success in college and beyond. The CPSA will be a high-performing, innovative public charter school in rural Madison County. It will serve K-5th grade students on a creative campus. The principal will start the school from scratch from hiring teachers, to developing policies and procedures that will define high the standards of the school.

SR1 Chief Operating Officer Dorlisa Hutton said, “The SR1 CPSA principal will be an innovator that promotes rigorous STEM learning across content areas within and outside the classroom.”

The SR1 CPSA Elementary Principal will be responsible for providing instructional leadership for the school and setting the school culture. The principal will be the face of the school and develop positive relationships with staff, students, families, and community members. 

“It is imperative that the SR1 CPSA Principal becomes part of the SR1 team that supports and believes in building collaborative community efforts. These efforts will be critical to enriching the overall learning environment for our students.” said Hutton. “Long term, the SR1 CPSA will contribute to the Mississippi economy and professional workforce by developing college ready students who will cultivate solutions to local, global and environmental challenges.”
